At first, I thought this was just another turn-based JRPG that you could play while half asleep. Turns out I was completely wrong… Incoming attacks still have to be dodged or parried manually, and you cannot take your eyes off the screen even for a second.
The enemies are designed around patterns, and I can learn them. Some slowly spin their bodies before striking, while others attack through sound patterns. They all have their own unique traits. But honestly, I retried the same boss more than ten times before I finally memorized its rhythm, and that makes this a JRPG that feels like a souls-like. They are hard to beat, like playing Dark Souls Remastered.
The Belle Époque world is incredibly beautiful, but the story is much darker than it looks. The exploration is not as wide-open as an open-world game like Red Dead Redemption 2. The dungeon routes are fairly linear, and there is no minimap either.
